Tell Your Brand’s Story with Story Pins

Near the end of 2020, Pinterest launched a new suite of creator-first features. These features include a new creator profile and analytic tools to better track your brand’s performance on Pinterest. The most exciting new feature in this suite is Story Pins. Let’s take a look at how these work and how you can leverage this new tool to grow your brand’s presence on Pinterest.

How Story Pins Work

If you have a Pinterest Business account, you can now easily apply to have the Story Pins feature added to your account. Once approved, you will be able to use Story Pins to tell more engaging and in-depth stories, with fun customization features. Using multiple video clips or images, voice-overs, music and text overlays, you can provide your subscribers with so much more than the average Pin allowed. And these Story Pins stay on your Pinterest page, in the boards to which you assign them!

You can:

  • Create a step-by-step guide or show the progression of a project from start to finish.
  • Upload multiple short videos with descriptive text on each.
  • Customize and have fun with the fonts and colors of your text.
  • Improve targeting through the use of topic tagging.
  • Curate a collection of products or services.
  • Tell your brand’s story in a fun, engaging way.

How to Create a Story Pin

So, how do you go about creating one of these fun new Story Pins? First things first, you currently have to apply for this feature with Pinterest. Once approved, log into your Pinterest business account, click “Create” and then “Create Story Pin.” Choose 1 to 20 videos or images to upload. Then the design fun begins!

With the Layout feature, you can organize and design the layout of your videos/images, as well as select or change your background colors. Under Adjust, you can adjust and resize your media uploads in various ways. With the Text feature, you can choose your font style, size, color, highlights, and alignment.

Once your Story Pin has the layout and design you desired, don’t forget to give it a title, organize it into a board, and search and tag up to 10 related topics.

How to Edit a Story Pin

Once your Story Pin is published, you can edit certain features of it for up to two weeks. You will be able to edit the board to which it was published, topic tags, and certain details. You can reorder the pages of your Story Pin, delete pages, or add a new page. However, you will not be able to edit the content on an existing page of a published Story Pin.

In addition, Pinterest is currently allowing Story Pin drafts to be saved (up to 3GB). This makes it easy to create your Story Pin ahead of time and publish once you are ready.

How to Get Inspired

You can search and browse published Story Pins from some of your favorite brands on Pinterest to gather inspiration and explore how others are capitalizing on this feature. Pinterest also put together an Inspiration board full of fun, diverse Story Pins. Check it out HERE!
